[REVIEW] The Growlers + Starcrawler|The CBD Live - Gold Coast - 05/01/20
REVIEW - Mark Taylor
Known for its sprawling metropolis and Mediterranean climate. LA descended on the Gold Coast. The first wave came in the form of Starcrawler, a veritable cataclysmic echo of epic proportions on a seismograph.
Bands come and go, like shifting sands. But few leave an indelible mark like Starcrawler do on their audiences. With a rock and roll swagger beyond their years, Starcrawler takes what little sustenance there is on offer and imbibes it like it's their last.
The Gold Coast saw a phenomenon tonight, I'm sure the many missed out.
Admittedly, The Growlers were unknown to me. But I can see why they are a staple of the LA underground scene.
13-14 years in the making and delivering a sound described as Beach Goth, I had flashbacks of the Stone Roses while watching this Natural Affair.
The band gave us 22 numbers from their discography, stepping from track to track like the seasoned musicians they are. I can see why Julian Casablancas and the like would want to work with them.
I'm looking forward to exploring their back catalogue I'm already sure a few will make the playlist.
The CBD Live is a sizeable venue,
It has an intimate quality with the audience being able to stand right up against the stage. This definitely helps the audience and performer connection, something both bands revelled in.
The Gold Coast has chalked another on its Rock 'n Roll belt, may there be many more like it.
