Biffy Clyro Announce New Album ‘A Celebration of Endings’ + Australian Dates for 2021
Updated: Mar 12
MON THE BIFF! Scottish royalty Biffy Clyro have just released a massive worldwide tour of dates and right at the very end of it? Australia of course! The trio will head down under for the first time since their Aussie tour two years ago in March 2018. It will have been two and a half years between shows by the time they hit our shores.
With their highly anticipated eighth album 'A Celebration of Endings' scheduled for release on May 15th, the band have stopped at nothing to shock fans with dates covering every inch of the UK, Europe and ending here on our sunny summer shores in January 2021.
The band released the first single 'Instant History' off of the upcoming album in February, followed by a second single "End of' on March 5th. Both tracks showing different sides of what we should expect from the album. 'Instant History' sits more on the natural progression that the Biff have pushed toward over the last couple of albums while 'End Of' with it's intro of creeping guitar feedback and dirty bass definitely nods at some more old school Biffy.
“This time around we wanted to lead with something that was the most out there thing which we’ve got on the record. ‘Instant History’ is the biggest, most slammest pop moment we’ve ever worked on,” enthuses frontman Simon Neil. “It’s a fantastic opening statement, although musically it doesn’t reflect the album’s direction. But thematically it’s a good pointer for what the album is about: learning from mistakes and realising how you can move things forward. Things can be similar although they’ll never be the same, but let’s not be scared of that.”
The new album finds Biffy Clyro – completed by the Johnston brothers James (bass) and Ben (drums) – pushing everything they do best to the next level. They’ve excelled at delivering some of the most captivating choruses of their career alongside explosions of sheer visceral intensity and some stirring, evocative orchestration. That eclectic quality keeps things thrilling unpredictable, especially as those traits often all emerge in the course of a single track.
If either of these tracks are a taste of what's to be expected on the new album, we should all be incredibly excited for it's release and the announcement of an Australian tour, even if it is a gruelling ten months away.
